Accessibility

We want the site and the apps to work for everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader or large text.

What we aim for

This website aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We haven't had it formally audited, so we don't claim full conformance; below is what we have checked and what we know still falls short.

What we've checked

  • Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, starting with a "Skip to main content" link, with a clear focus ring in both themes.
  • Buttons, links and form fields have names that say what they do; links that open a new tab say so.
  • Converter results and "Copied" confirmations are announced to screen readers as they change.
  • Pages are organized with headings you can jump between.
  • Text, buttons and the focus ring were measured against the contrast minimums in the light and dark themes.
  • Pages reflow without sideways scrolling down to 320 pixels wide, the width of a 1280-pixel window at 400% zoom.
  • Motion is turned off when your device asks to reduce it, and switching themes is instant.
  • No pop-ups or cookie banners get in the way. When ads come to some free pages, visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland will first see Google's consent message; we will check that it works with a keyboard and a screen reader before it goes live, and ads will never cover content.

We check these with keyboard-only walkthroughs, the browser's accessibility tree, both themes, and narrow and zoomed screens, including a review by an accessibility specialist.

Known gaps

  • We haven't yet tested the site with VoiceOver or TalkBack on a phone.
  • At 300% zoom on a phone, the percentage calculator's rows are slightly wider than the screen.
  • There is no high-contrast theme yet, only light and dark.
  • PDF and image tools return files; how those files open, and how accessible they are, depends on the app you open them in.

The apps

Each app's page and support guide describe what it does today. If something in one of our apps gets in your way, such as a control VoiceOver can't reach or text that doesn't grow with your text size, tell us which app and which screen and we'll fix it.

Report a barrier

Email support@utilava.com with the page or app, what you were trying to do, and what assistive technology you use, if any. A person reads every message; see Contact for how soon we reply.
