What the watermark looks like
The text, up to 60 characters, is stamped across the middle of every page on a 45-degree diagonal, in light gray at about a quarter strength, so the page stays readable. Its size adjusts to the page and the length of the text. Short words such as DRAFT, COPY or CONFIDENTIAL read best.
The stamp uses a standard PDF font with Western letters, so Chinese, Arabic or emoji characters won't show. A watermark marks a document; it doesn't protect it. Someone with a PDF editor can still remove it or copy the text underneath.
Choosing the words
Say what the reader should do or know, in one or two words: DRAFT for a version that will change, COPY for one that isn't the original, CONFIDENTIAL or INTERNAL for one that shouldn't travel, or SAMPLE for a document you're showing but not handing over. A name or a date works too, such as a client's name on a proposal, so a forwarded copy shows where it came from.
Keep an unmarked copy: the stamp is part of the pages once it's added. If the file is also too big to send, watermark it first and compress it after.
Stamp text such as DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL across every page of a PDF. No sign-up; files are never stored. The other PDF jobs (merge, split, compress, rotate, images to PDF and watermark) each have a page of their own.
How it works
- Add one PDF — The watermark goes on every page.
- Type the text — Up to 60 characters, such as DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL.
- Stamp it — The PDF downloads with the text across each page.
Examples
- DRAFT — Mark a document so nobody mistakes it for the final version.
