Your numbers
15% of 84.50 = 12.675 (12.68 to the cent)
For example 12.68 is what % of 84.50.
For example a price going from 80 to 92.
Three questions, three formulas
Percent of: multiply and divide by 100, so 15% of 84.50 is 84.50 × 15 ÷ 100 = 12.675. In your head, 10% is the number with the decimal point moved one place (8.45), 5% is half of that (4.225), and together they make 15%.
What percent: divide the part by the whole, then multiply by 100. 12.68 out of 84.50 is about 15.006%.
Percent change: the difference divided by the starting number, times 100. A price going from 80 to 92 rose by 12, and 12 ÷ 80 is a 15% rise.
Undoing a percentage
To find a price before a discount, divide; don't add the percentage back. If something costs $64 after 20% off, the original was 64 ÷ 0.8 = $80, not 64 × 1.2 = $76.80. The same goes for sales tax: $54 including 8% tax is 54 ÷ 1.08 = $50 before tax.
Changes in a row multiply rather than add. A 10% rise followed by a 10% fall leaves you at 99% of where you started, because the fall is 10% of the bigger number.
Percent or percentage points?
When a rate moves from 4% to 5%, it rose by 1 percentage point, but by 25% of its old value. News about interest rates and polls usually means points; a "25% increase" in the same rate means the second reading.

Three everyday percentage questions in one place: how much is 15% of a price, what share one number is of another, and how much something rose or fell. Each answer updates as you type and can be copied.
How it works
- Percent of — Multiply the number by the percent and divide by 100.
- What percent — Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100.
- Percent change — The difference divided by the starting number, times 100: a rise or a drop.
Examples
- 15% of 84.50 — 12.675
- 12.68 is what % of 84.50 — About 15.006%
- A price going from 80 to 92 — A rise of 15%
FAQ
- Why does a 50% rise and a 50% drop not cancel out? — Each percent is of a different starting number: 100 up 50% is 150, and 150 down 50% is 75.
- Can I use decimals and commas? — Yes. 1,250.75 and 1250.75 both work.
- Are my numbers stored? — No. The math runs in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
