About

What the game is.

Lancewing is a fast, one-screen arcade battle in the sky, drawn and scored like the 8-bit games you remember. You ride a golden eagle over a lake of lava. Bat-riding knights appear on the floating ledges, and the rule is simple: when two lances meet, the higher one wins. Flap to climb, glide to dive, and hit them from above.

A short guided First Flight teaches the moves on your first game. After that it's waves of riders that get faster and smarter, eggs to grab before they hatch, and a wyvern that comes hunting if you linger.

Easy to pick up

Three ways to fly.

Tap sides

Touch the left side of the screen to flap left, the right side to flap right. Hold to keep climbing.

One Thumb

For one free hand: hold anywhere to climb, slide to steer, let go to dive.

Stick + flap

Slide one thumb to steer and run along ledges, tap the other side to flap. There's a left-handed option.

Controllers and keyboards

Bluetooth game controllers and iPad keyboards work with no setup.

Hard to put down

What's in a game.

Three kinds of riders

Wandering Raiders, horned Marauders and crested Warlords who always fight for the high ground.

Eggs

Unseated riders drop eggs: grab them for growing bonuses, catch them in midair for more, or watch them hatch into tougher foes.

Waves with a twist

Gauntlet waves pay a bonus for a clean run, nest waves start as a clutch of eggs, and lava geysers bubble before they erupt.

The wyvern

Linger too long and it comes hunting. Only two blows from above will stop it.

Practice and Relaxed speed

Practice has harmless riders at half speed. Relaxed runs any game at three quarters speed.

Compete

A Game Center leaderboard and seven achievements, plus your own top-ten Hall of Fame with initials and lifetime stats.

8-bit at heart

Hand-made pixel art and a chiptune soundtrack made for this game, at 60 frames a second, on iPhone and iPad.

Accessible

Menus grow with your text size, every lost life is explained in words, Reduce Motion is honored, and a 3-2-1 countdown follows every pause.

Private

No accounts, no ads, no purchases, no tracking. Scores stay on your device; Game Center is Apple's own service and optional.

Buying and refunds

How paying through the App Store works.

One price, once

When it launches: $3.99 in the App Store. No in‑app purchases and no subscription.

A new phone or your iPad

Once you buy it, the purchase will belong to your Apple Account. On another iPhone or an iPad signed in with the same account, open the App Store, tap your account picture, then Apps, and download Lancewing again at no charge.

Refunds

Apple handles the payment, so refunds go through Apple: ask for one at reportaproblem.apple.com (opens in a new tab). If something isn't working, tell us first at support@utilava.com; we'd rather fix it.
