Euro coins have one side shared by all and one national side, and every one of them is good in any euro country.
A worked example (made-up numbers)
Say the mid-market rate is 1.1600 euros to the pound. An €80 restaurant bill is £68.97 at that rate. If the terminal charges you £72.90 in pounds instead, that's about 6% more for the same meal.
