About AED to INR
Who uses this route
Millions of Indians live and work in the UAE, and dirhams sent home are a large share of what India receives from abroad. Many transfers are regular, sent soon after the monthly salary arrives.
How the money arrives
Most transfers go to a bank account in India, either from a bank app in the UAE or through an exchange house, which can also take cash over the counter. Ask each one for the rupee amount that will arrive, since a counter's posted rate can differ from its app's.
Worth knowing
The dirham is pegged to the US dollar at 3.6725 dirhams per dollar, so AED to INR rises and falls almost exactly with USD to INR. If you follow the dollar-rupee rate in the news, you already know which way this one moved.
A worked example (made-up numbers)
Say the mid-market rate is 25.60 rupees to the dirham. An exchange house offers 25.45 and charges AED 15 to send AED 2,000. AED 1,985 at 25.45 delivers ₹50,518, while the mid-market rate would give ₹51,200: together the fee and the rate cost about ₹682, or 1.3%.
