Who uses this route
The Philippines receives a large share of its income from Filipinos working abroad, and the United States is home to the biggest Filipino community outside Asia. Dollars sent home pay for school fees, rent, food and medicine, often every month.
How the money arrives
Families receive money in several ways: deposited to a bank account, sent to a mobile wallet, or picked up in cash at pawnshops and remittance counters across the country. Cash pickup is convenient where banks are far away, but check its rate as well as its fee.

The peso is written with the ₱ sign. Peso amounts are large next to dollars, so a small difference in the rate is easy to miss on a single transfer, and it adds up when a family is sent money every month.
A worked example (made-up numbers)
Say the mid-market rate is 58.00 pesos to the dollar, and a service with no fee offers 57.13, 1.5% lower. $300 then delivers ₱17,139 instead of ₱17,400. Sent monthly, that ₱261 gap is over ₱3,000 a year.
